According to Taiping Zoo webpage, this zoo covers an
area of 34 acres (14 ha) with more than 1,300 animals of 180 species. So, you
know, this is quite a big zoo and you won’t be able to see all the animals if
you don’t have all day, thus The mini train ride is a must as it gives you a
better overview of what animals are available in the zoo. The paved walkway is
wheel-friendly. If this is your visit first, taking the tram ride is worth to
have an idea of the whole place. Spot the places of your interest and you can
always come back later on foot.

Chimpanzees are one of four types of great apes in
the world, apart from gorillas, bonobos and orangutans. One
major difference that distinguishes chimpanzees from monkeys is that the former
does not have a tail.
Chimpanzees have opposable thumbs and toes that help
them in grasping objects easily.
They have an omnivorous diet, which mainly includes
fruit, plants, insects, eggs and meat, but they prefer fresh fruit because fruits are delicious with the natural sweetened taste.

Mouse deer form the Tragulidae family of small
even-toed ungulates in the mammalian order Artiodactyla. Other Artiodactyla families include the deer,
the pigs and the cattle.
Mouse deer are frugivorous. They feed on fallen
fruits, shoots, young leaves and fungi foraged from the ground and low
vegetation.
True story: The mouse deer is well known from Malay stories as the wily Sang Kancil always manages to outwit large predators like the crocodile and the tiger. This small little animals is so strong that even the local automobile company, Perodua use this animal name as the vehicle model - "Perodua Kancil". which is a small and light car that can drive up to 110km/h.

The name of this animal is Malayan elephant, also called as Gajah Malaysia (in Malay). Elephants are of course one of the
many thousand animals in Taiping Zoo.
The subspecies found in Malaysia is Elephas
maximus hirsutus. The gestation period is about 20 to 22 months and the
lifespan is 60 to 80 years.
Females and their young live in small herds while adult males prefer to be alone like the picture at the middle, the male elephant prefer being alone at the corner swinging around its trunk and does not like to stick with the herds. In addition, they rest during the hottest hours of the day. Each
group has its own area where it forages for food. The zoo also built a small river for them to cool themselves and swimming sometimes, because they enjoy swimming in
rivers.

Orangutan |
Orangutan is a ape family animal mostly found in Malaysia and Indonesia and currently is rare to be found in these country anymore.The Orang Utan is tail-less, with small ears and a
small nose. The coat is long and soft, and reddish brown in color. The arched
eyebrows are not very conspicuous, and the jaws are prominent.

The Peach-faced Lovebird (or Burung Cinta in Malay) also known as Rosy-faced Lovebird is a species of lovebird. |
These bird are so beautiful just like a painting ! These birds as either
single pairs or in colonies, but they are more prone to fighting in a
colony setting. The female lays 2-6 dull white eggs between February and
April which are incubated for 23 days. The young fledge after 43 days.

and their distinct black and white striping pattern, are among the most
recognizable of all mammals

Ostrich |
Ostrich (or Burung Unta
in Malay) is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest egg of any
living bird and can run at maximum speeds of about 70 km/h (45 mph).

The Malayan sun bear (also known as Honey Bear) is
the smallest member of the bear family.
It is also the one with the shortest and sleekest
coat - perhaps an adaptation to a lowland equatorial climate.

Indo-Pacific or Saltwater Crocodile is one of the most powerful animals in the
world and it is very dangerous but look the 4th picture the zoo keeper is showing off his skills playing with the crocodile using dried coconut leaf.
This crocodile is a very strong swimmer, this ocean-going species has been
recorded from India to Australia and from the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean
to Fiji in the Pacific.
Numbers have declined in parts of its range.

The Malayan Tiger is a tiger subspecies found only
in Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand. They only number about 500 and
are mainly found in Pahang, Perak, Kelantan and Terengganu. Compared to other
tiger subspecies, the Malayan Tiger is smaller in size.
It usually rests during the day and begins hunting
in the evening. The most common prey is wild pigs and if the opportunity arise
Sambar, Barking Deer and others. It also takes jungle fowl, forest rats,
insects, etc. The tiger enjoys playing and swimming in water.

Hippopotamus is a
large, plant eating African mammal. A male hippopotamus is known as a bull, a
female as a cow, and a baby as a calf. A hippo's lifespan is typically 40 to 50
years.
This animals is the third largest land mammals in the world. An open mouth signals that the Hippo feels threatened as shown on the right picture, besides the name hippopotamus comes from the Greek "hippos," meaning horse, these animals were once called "river horses.
